Description

Learning Disability Social Worker

ASA Recruitment is seeking experienced and compassionate Social Workers with experience or keen interest in Learning Disability to join a supportive team and supporting individuals with Learning disabilities and complex needs in East Lothian and surrounding areas. This role is an exciting opportunity for professionals passionate about making a real difference in the lives of with learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Care Planning

  • Conduct needs assessments to determine service eligibility and support planning.
  • Perform carer’s Assessments to ensure unpaid carers receive necessary resources and support.
  • Develop and implement individualised support to promote dignity, respect, and inclusion including applying the Self-Directed Support (SDS) framework to provide personalised care options that enhance autonomy and choice.

Safeguarding & Legal Responsibilities

  • Identify and respond to concerns under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act, ensuring vulnerable individuals are safeguarded.
  • Work within Multi-Agency Adult Protection Procedures, recording and addressing concerns promptly through appropriate channels.
  • Liaise with legal teams on guardianship and power of attorney applications, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Multi Agency Collaboration & Social Inclusion

  • Partner with NHS Scotland, Community Learning Disability Teams (CLDTs), and third-sector organisations to deliver integrated, person centred care.
  • Engage with housing services, advocacy groups, and employment support to promote independence, inclusion, and community participation.
  • Facilitate access to employment, education, and social activities, enhancing wellbeing and reducing isolation.

Case Management & Professional Development

  • Maintain accurate case records and reports for Mental Health Tribunals, Adult Protection Reviews, and other legal proceedings.
  • Apply trauma informed approaches to ensure care is sensitive to past experiences, reducing distress and enhancing engagement.
  • Ensure Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in line with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Registration Standards.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work and registration with SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council).
  • Experience with learning disabilities in either adult or children’s services.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and safeguarding policies is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and case management skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and travel within the region when required.

What We Offer:

  • Starting hourly wage of £26 Refer-a-friend and £250 (Love2Vouchers) after qualifying period
