Our client based in Aberdeen are looking to recruit a Policy Advisor on an initial 6 month placement with the possibility for this to extend. The postholder will be expected to develop a rapid understanding of legislation in relation to meat and dairy hygiene. As a Policy Advisor, the work will involve significant internal and external collaboration and engagement with a wide range of Scottish and UK government departments, enforcement authorities, and stakeholders. This post would suit either a science or social science graduate, with a good grasp of politics or law or equivalent experience
The typical working week will be 37 hours with flexible working week between 0700 and 1900 Monday – Friday. The rate will be pro rata on an annual salary of £29,759 along with holiday accrual
Specific duties of the role:
* Lead and where required support policy development and delivery of new hygiene legislation
* Develop subject specific knowledge and expertise in policy areas
* Lead on the drafting of documents, correspondence and other written material as required
* Lead on the handling and responding to external stakeholder enquiries
* Direct and proactive liaison with stakeholders, including wide ranging food industry interests
Essential criteria required:
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Good interpersonal and team-working skills
* Ability to engage confidently with range of people, including proven ability to build effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
* Proven ability of developing and applying new skills and knowledge to meet business needs
* Strong research and evidence analysis skills
While the majority of the placement will be based at the Aberdeen office some travel within the UK may be required depending on the nature of the work e.g. starting key projects such as new legislation or guidance material
