Description

Are you a highly skilled professional with a passion for ensuring a seamless witness experience? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Witness Statement Officer for a prominent Inquiry based in Central Edinburgh.

Main Duties:

  • Take accurate statements from witnesses, providing a detailed first-person account of their testimony.
  • Collaborate closely with the Witness Manager and Legal Team to prepare for statement-taking, ensuring comprehensive coverage of relevant areas for the Inquiry.
  • Work with the Documents and Evidence Management Team to ensure all necessary documentation is available during statement-taking, managing practical aspects of interviews.
  • Conduct post-interview reviews with the Witness Manager, ensuring key areas are highlighted, and draft statements capture essential points.
  • Apply ongoing reflective practice to enhance all aspects of the interview process, aiming for the best possible witness experience and evidence for the Inquiry.
  • Take responsibility for all procedural matters related to interviews, ensuring witnesses are fully aware of the process and observing data protection requirements.
  • Work flexibly, including undertaking research or preparing short reports through the examination of evidence.

Essential Criteria:

  • Considerable experience in dealing with the public, especially in challenging and stressful circumstances.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills.

The post is based in Central Edinburgh, with potential travel requirements to gather statements from witnesses across Scotland and beyond.
