AWS Platform Engineer
We are in search of an adept AWS Platform Engineer to join a leading public institution in the UK within its IT Department’s Development Enablement team. This role involves providing hands-on technical expertise to an agile platform development team and supporting the Product Teams in their deliverables.
The role can be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh on a hybrid basis, ideally for at least part of each week face-to-face.
The Role:
As an AWS Platform Engineer, you’ll be pivotal in collaborating with Product Teams to ensure best practices in developing, testing, deploying, and supporting products on cloud services. Your responsibilities will include designing, building, and supporting services for software delivery, focusing on the institution’s cloud platform. Additionally, you’ll contribute to minimizing vulnerabilities, transitioning on-premises products to cloud-based alternatives, enhancing interactions with cloud monitoring guardrails, and supporting the core platforms.
Responsibilities:
· Collaborate with Product Teams to ensure best practices in AWS-based software development.
· Design, build, and support services focusing on the institution’s cloud platform.
· Minimize vulnerabilities and transition on-premises products to cloud-based alternatives.
· Enhance interaction with cloud monitoring guardrails and support bot protection mechanisms.
· Communicate activity, progress, and gather requirements effectively.
· Ensure compliance with governance standards.
· Support core platforms and ensure disaster recovery assurance.
Requirements:
· Proficiency in designing and constructing platforms in AWS.
· Experience with AWS Serverless technologies and CI/CD methodology.
· Competency in defining infrastructure and processes as code.
· Strong ability to add value throughout the software lifecycle.
· Application of automated testing in AWS environments.
· Familiarity with Agile delivery models (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).
· Expertise in various AWS tools and services related to cloud security, networking, and deployment.
· Knowledge of containerised platforms and proficiency in related technologies.
· Proficiency in scripting languages, version control, monitoring, and Linux-based systems.
· Experience with cloud security solutions such as Prisma Cloud.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
· Knowledge of Jenkins and Ansible
· Experience in enterprise-scale software builds and integration.
· Proficiency in tools supporting rapid development and delivery.
· Previous experience deploying applications to the cloud using PaaS and SaaS
Package on Offer:
· Outside IR35
· Initial contract of 12 months.
