There is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Unix Engineer to join an organisation going through a period of digital transformation. The organisation is a large public body based in the central belt of Scotland. The role is remote-first as the role can be performed from home, but there are occasional in-person activities that requires the candidate to be based within a reasonable distance of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The Role:
The role is for an experienced Unix Engineer to assist with the creation of the new Unix system to improve the existing setup. The organisation is endeavouring to move its operations to a cloud-based system as part of its digital transformation. The engineer will be joining the existing Site Reliance team that exists to deliver high quality and resilient digital products. This role is perfect for someone looking for a contract position working on an engaging project. The role is offering an initial 6-month contract with the possibility of extending beyond this and is outside of IR35.
Responsibilities:
· Strengthen automation for disaster recovery and system provisioning.
· Review and manage vendor contracts and support agreements.
· Implement and support Privileged Access Management (PAM) and Hashicorp Vault.
· Migrate UNIX platform to RHEL8/9 and manage Red Hat Satellite for system administration.
· Apply RHEL Patching and optimize both new and existing UNIX infrastructure.
· Use Ansible for OS and application automation, including deployments and upgrades.
· Develop and maintain site monitoring for Solaris, NetApp, and Oracle using REST APIs, InfluxDB, Grafana, and Nagios.
· Integrate RHEL with Active Directory using IDM and Winbind.
· Implement and support Load Balancer technologies like HAProxy and keepalived.
· Administer CommVault backups and Samba configurations.
· Collaborate with assurance teams to establish effective DR testing procedures.
Requirements:
· Unix platform administration.
· DevOps and infrastructure automation.
· Shell scripting (Bash) and Python.
· Ansible for automation.
· Load Balancer technologies (e.g., HAProxy).
· Monitoring tools: Grafana and Nagios.
· Agile methodologies.
· Risk management and mitigation.
· Infrastructure project leadership.
· Security design and architecture.
· Hashicorp Vault (deployment and administration).
· CommVault Backup Administration.
· Jenkins for system configuration and pipelines.
