ASA Recruitment are working with a large public sector client and are currently looking for an Environmental Health Officer on a temporary basis ASAP until November 2023.
The position is based in the Lochaber area and has standard working hours of 9am-5pm Monday to Friday however flexible working is required. The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the full range of operational duties in relation to Environmental Health and provide supervision, guidance and training to Technical Officers and Student Environmental Health Officers. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Environmental Health team that is committed to delivering a wide range of regulatory duties throughout the Highland area. Environmental Health is the branch of public health which deals with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect public health, together with animal welfare and licensing duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Carrying out Environmental Health Regulation and Advice duties, as appropriate, in terms of the delegation and authorisation of these from the client
· Supervising Technical Officers and student EHOs as necessary
· Contributing to the smooth running of the Environmental Health Team by ensuring performance targets are met and customer care is developed
· Liaising and working closely with Senior Environmental Health Officers in their capacities as Lead Officers and in relation to special projects
· Deputising, where necessary, for the Senior Environmental Health Officer
· Preparing reports and attending Committee meetings as necessary. This will include preparing reports to the Licensing Committee with recommendations as to the grant or refusal of licence applications and any conditions which should be applied
· Attending meetings of the Licensing Committee.
· Representing the client at meetings, seminars, working groups etc. as appropriate
In order to be able to carry out the duties of this post effectively and safely, we are looking for applicants who can provide evidence of the following;
· Broad-based experience in Environmental Health and evidence of continuing professional development
· REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, or confirmation from the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) of the equivalency of qualifications
· Ability to manage workload and to work to strict deadlines
· Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
· Working knowledge and experience in use of Microsoft office applications
· Good communication, diplomacy and organisational skills
· Capacity to work with complex issues
· A current UK driving licence and a commitment to regular travel across the Highland area
· Basic Disclosure
Additionally, experience of working with Civica APP (Flare) computer system and experience of supervising other staff members would both be beneficial.
The salary on offer for this Environmental Health Officer position is £43,552.60- £47,629.40 dependant on relevant experience.
