Older Adults Mental Health Officer

ASA are recruiting for a Mental Health Officer for Older Adults to work with our well known Public Sector client in Aberdeenshire to provide a high quality service as part of a Community Mental Health team while SSSC Code of Practice and the National Standards for Mental Health Officers.

In the post of Mental Health Officer you will;

  • Be responsible for all relevant duties involved with securing and arranging services where necessary whilst promoting and facilitating an integrated approach within the Local Authority’s Adult Care Management Service and NHS Grampian’s Adult Mental Health, Old Age Psychiatry & Learning Disability Services.
  • Provide advice and guidance to practitioners across Adult Community Care and NHS Grampian regarding legislation, associated codes of practice and local procedures.
  • Complete Mental Health Officer Assessments, prepare applications and complete required reports under Mental Health and Criminal Procedures and Adults with Incapacity Legislation, attend court and Mental Health Tribunals.
  • Provide consultation in multi-disciplinary settings in all aspects of Mental Health and Adults with Incapacity Legislation
  • Promote and enable access to the rights of supported persons subject to legislation.
  • Maintain Mental Health Officer Statutory Registration, fulfilling all requirements of the Mental Health Directions 2006 (Requirements for continuing appointment as Mental Health Officers).
  • Provide mentoring and support to trainee and newly appointed Mental Health Officers.
  • Participate in various rotas including; Community Mental Health Officer Rotas, Hospital Mental Health Officer rotas and Mental Health Officer Out-of-Hours Emergency service Stand-by Rotas.

Experience, Qualifications and Training;
Essential;

  • Advanced assessment and critical analysis skills with the ability to accurately record information and present written care plans
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work in a person centred outcomes focused way whilst understanding the concepts of unmet need and social inclusion
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively and work to deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to work in a dispersed team and make informed decisions
  • Ability to develop open and honest relationships, with colleagues and supported persons
  • Diploma in Social Work or equivalent professional Qualification in Social Work
  • Mental Health Officer Award
  • Current Scottish Social Services Council Registration
  • Adult Support & Protection Level 2
  • PVG for Children and Adults
  • Current Full Driving Licence and vehicle available (mileage paid)

Desired;

  • Experience in community settings, working with supported persons with mental health problems
  • Experience in working with supported persons with dementia and neurological conditions.
  • Experience in care & treatment planning
  • Experience in promotion of self-directed support choices and negotiating for care services.
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages and other systems
  • Awareness of Health & Safety issues

This is a full time, temporary position until August 2022 with the potential for extension. The role may require flexible, night and weekend working. While working for ASA we can offer you a pay rate of £21.59 per hour as well as additional holiday pay and pension scheme.
